Yes, you can send large documents over fax, and how reliably that works depends heavily on the platform and network handling the transmission.

Traditional fax has always been theoretically capable of sending multi-page documents, but anyone who has tried to fax a lengthy contract, a thick medical record, or a multi-section report over a standard analog line knows that the reality is often different. Long transmissions are more vulnerable to the line drops, noise, and signal degradation that cause failures, and many traditional fax platforms either impose page limits or simply fail on large jobs without clear error reporting.

How the Platform Handles Large Documents

Because Passport routes over the etherFAX network rather than traditional analog phone lines, the signal degradation and line-drop vulnerabilities that affect large document transmission over PSTN are not present in the same way. The transmission is a data transfer over a secure IP connection, not an analog signal that degrades over time and distance.

A legacy analog fax machine receiving a very large document is limited by the speed of its printing mechanism and the availability of paper, and very long transmissions may time out or cut off if the receiving machine has a built-in page limit.

Passport’s delivery confirmation and audit logging will show whether a transmission completed successfully at the receiving end, which means if a large document does not arrive intact, the failure is visible in the Enterprise Status Manager rather than unknown until the recipient reports it.
